Mayenschein, Leland (28 MAY 1938-16 July 2011)

 

Leland D. Mayenschein, 73, Rock Dam, died on Saturday, July 16, 2011, at Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, July 22, at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church, Thorp. Rev. Keith Apfelbeck officiated. Burial of cremains followed at Butler Cemetery, in the town of Butler.

 

Leland Dale Mayenschein was born on May 28, 1938, in the town of Butler, Clark County, the son of Curtis and Laura (nee Butler) Mayenschein.

 

He was raised on the family farm, received his education in rural county schools, and graduated from Greenwood High School in 1956. After high school, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served with the Rangers until his honorable discharge in 1962. He married Sharon McConnell on Aug. 5, 1961, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Greenwood. They later divorced. He lived in Milwaukee and worked for Allen Bradley for 36 years, and also worked as a mechanic at Sears for more than 20years, until retiring in 1995. After retiring, he moved to Rock Dam and married Judith Bauer on June 12, 1999, at St. Hedwig’s Chapel, Thorp. He resided at Rock Dam until his death. He was a member of St Bernard0St Hedwig’s Catholic Church. He had many interests, but especially loved spending time with his family and friends, hunting, fishing, gardening, birds, building bird houses, planting rees and cooking. He also loved children, sports, and coaching Little League baseball for many years.

 

He will be dearly missed by his wife, Judy, Rock Dam; three children, Mark (Rosanne) Mayenschein, Dousman, Paul (Jennifer) Mayenschein, Mukwonago, and Lynn (Chris) Harrington, Greenfield; six step-children, Jeanette (Joe) Dougherty, Juniper, Fla., Charlene (John) Abramczak, Thorp, Patrick (Darlene) Bauer, Thorp, Michelle (Greg) Turenne, Thorp, Suzanne (Jamis) Anderson, Thorp, and Kristin (Patrick) Hemplemann, Thorp; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one step great-grandson; two brothers, Norman (Rita) Mayenschein, Greenwood, and David (Marilyn) Mayenschein, Thorp; three sisters, Marlys (Frank) Andruszkiewicz, Thorp, Mary Lynn (Matt) Grajkowski, Thorp, and Carol (Doug) Bottlemy, Owen; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents.
