Green, Fletcher D. (28 MAY 1870 - 6 SEP 1948)

 

Fletcher Dighton Green was born at Augusta, Wis., May 28, 1870, and passed away at his home in Humbird (Clark Co., Wis.) at 11 o’clock Monday forenoon, Sept. 6, 1948, at the age of 78 years, 8 months and 9 days.

 

While still an infant, his family moved to Cedar Falls where they lived 18 years, later returning to Augusta.  His young manhood was spent in the lumbering camps, and he also traveled as a performer with Ringling Bros. Circus.

 

April 29, 1902, he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Margaret Swenson, at Virginia, Minn.

 

Two years later they moved to Augusta, where he was engaged in farming, until in 1908 they moved to a farm east of Humbird, which was their home until they retired in 1938, and moved into the village.

 

To this union were born four children, His son Russell and daughter Ruth preceding him in death.

 

He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, two sons, Theodore and family of Marshfield, and Herbert and family of this village, a son-in-law, Jacob Leiser and family of Milwaukee.  There are fourteen grandchildren, besides a number of other relatives and a host of friends who mourn his death.

 

Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church Last Thursday afternoon, the Rev. Norman J. Dechant of Neillsville, officiating.  Mrs. W.E. Waters and Mrs. Walter Smith sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Rock of Ages," with Mrs. H.L. Losey accompanist.  Pallbearers were Fred Theiler, Fred Dunn, Mahlon Lund, Peter Fradenburg, Will Ringrose and Jacob Hefty.  Interment was in Mentor Cemetery.

 

Besides the members of his family, relatives and friends from away who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. F.A. Briggs, Frank Washburn, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Washburn, Wesley Washburn, Eau Claire; Mrs. Lewis Fitzmaurice, Fairchild; Mr. and Mrs. Peter O’Leary, Two Rivers; Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Meredith, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Green; and Mrs. Arthur Meinholdt, Neillsville; and Mr. and Mrs. tony Klancher, Granton.
