Edmund Alexander Lobacz, 80, of Fort Wayne, passed away Thursday, June 30, 2011, at Parkview Hospital.  He was born November 15, 1930, on the family farm near Thorp, Wisconsin.  He graduated from high school in Thorp, WI in 1948, and then met his future bride during the time he worked on the family farm after graduation.  He joined the U. S. Air Force in 1952 and served honorably for four years, including one year in Korea during the Korean War.  He married his wife and best friend Dolores "Dolly" (Ciszewski) on June 19, 1954, at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church in Thorp, WI.  After his discharge from the Air Force, he and Dolly moved to Fort Wayne where he enrolled in Indiana Tech’s Electrical Engineering program.  After graduating college, Ed worked at Dana, AT&T and finally at Bowmar Instrument where he worked for 35 years. He also worked part-time at Magnavox.  During his retirement, he enjoyed traveling, visiting casinos, cheering on the Cubs, and going to his grandchildren’s ball games, hockey games and other activities.  Ed was a member of Queen of Angels Church for 56 years, their Men’s society and the American Legion. An avid sports fan, he participated in softball and bowling leagues for many years.

 

 He is survived by his wife and best friend, Dolly, and seven children: Denise (Tim) Hicks, Donald (Sarah) Lobacz, Diane Johnston, Daniel (Jill) Lobacz, David (Deb) Lobacz, Donna Jean (Phil) Kessler, and Darlene (Kip) Sipe, all of the Fort Wayne area; grandchildren: Ricky Johnson, Heather (Tommy) Schoegler, Amy Hicks, Patrick (Cortney) Johnston, Jennifer Hicks, Danielle Lobacz, Heather Cady, Matthew Lobacz, Corey Cady, Alex Lobacz, Veronica Sipe, Charlotte Sipe, Charlie Sipe; and great-grandchildren: Grace and Carter Schoegler and a third due in August. He is survived by sister, Regina (Lobacz) Rogalski, the only surviving sibling of ten; sister-in-law, Grace (Turenne) Lobacz; and many nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Donna Marie, six brothers, two sisters and parents, Victory and Mary (Rogus) Lobacz.

 

Service was held at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 9, 2011, at Queen of Angels Catholic Church, 1600 W. State Street, with calling one hour prior to service. Fr. Gary Sigler officiated. Visitation was also from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at Sloan & Sons, 1327 N. Wells St. with rosary service at 7:30 p.m.  Burial was in Catholic Cemetery, Lake Avenue, Fort Wayne. Memorials to Queen of Angels Catholic Church and school, Fort Wayne or Parkview Hospice, 2200 Randallia Drive, Fort Wayne, IN.
