Hobbs, Leonard (17 SEP 1882 - 28 MAR 1948)

Leonard Hobbs, youngest son of John and Maria Hobbs, was born Sept. 17, 1882, in the town of Garden Valley, Jackson Co., Wis., and was a lifelong resident int eh community in which he was raised.

Aug. 1, 1911, he was united in marriage with Miss Olive Johnston, and their home was on the farm of the bride’s parents in Cleveland.  No children came to gladden this union.  Mrs. Hobbs passed away after twenty years of married life, May 2, 1932.

The farm where they had made their home was disposed of, and Mr. Hobbs has since made his home in Humbird (Clark Co., Wis.).  He was employed for a while in Milwaukee, and also a part of the time assisted his brother Lewis, in the service station at Fairchild.

He has been in failing health the past several years.  A couple of weeks ago he was taken to the hospital at Neillsville, seriously ill, where death relieved him of his sufferings about 2:00 o’clock Easter Sunday afternoon, March 28, 1948, at the age of 65 years, 6 months and 11 days.

Surviving are his only sister, Mrs. Lenna Raymond of Chippewa Falls, and brother, Lewis Hobbs of Fairchild, and one nephew, Lloyd Hobbs of Eau Claire, besides many friends.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in this village Teusday afternoon, Rev. Geo. W. Hohmann of St. John’s Church, officiating.  Burial was in Curtis Cemetery in Garden Valley.  Pastor Hohmann used as a text for his sermon, Ps. 46:1-2, "God is our refuge and strength."  Mrs. Walter Smith and Miss Ambrose sang "Rock of Ages" and "Abide with Me."  Pallbearers were Jacob Heft, Will Ringrose, W.C. Flood, Hartwig Nelson, Ervin Kelsh, Edwin Bieller.  Many friends and neighbors attended the services.
