Andrus, Sanford S. (5 JAN 1849 - 20 DEC 1947)

Sanford S. Andrus was born in Binghamton, N.Y., on Jan. 5, 1849.  While there he married Olive Edwards.  Later they came to Wisconsin, settling at Nettleton’s Corners, south of Humbird (Clark Co., Wis.).  They next moved into Humbird, where he did mason work, and lived out most of his lifetime.

To Mr. and Mrs. Andrus four children were born: Mrs. Rose McCarthy of Mound, Minn.; Mrs. J. Creviston of Lake Eau Claire; Mrs. D. Maxon of Altoona; and Frank H. Andrus of Osseo.  He had eight grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and ten great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Andrus spent the last year of his life in the Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire, where he passed away Saturday night, Dec. 20, 1947.  Had he lived until the 5th of January, he would have been 99 years old.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in this village Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 23rd, Rev. Geo. W. Hohmann, pastor of St. John’s Church, officiating.  The pastor used as his text for the sermon, John 5:29, "All who are in the graves will hear his voice; those who have done good, to the resurrection to life, those whose actions have been evil to the resurrection to judgment."

"Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," and "Rock of Ages" were sung by Mrs. Will Dignin and Miss Lucille Dunn, with Mrs. Walter Smith accompanist.

Pallbearers were Harry Hart, Walter Smith, Will Ringrose, John Blang, Mahlon Lund, and Henry Laffe.  Burial was in Mentor Cemetery.
