DeLong, William H. (13 MAY 1896 - 21 OCT 1947)

 

William Henry DeLong, whose sudden death was noted in the Enterprise two weeks ago, oldest son of Joseph and Lydia DeLong, was born at Humbird (Clark Co.), Wis., May 13, 1896, and passed away suddenly on Tuesday, Oct. 21, 1947, at his camp at Beaver River, N.Y., in the Adirondacks.

 

He grew to young manhood in the vicinity of Humbird and received his education in the Humbird public schools.  He served in the First World War, he and Robert F. Willman being the only two taken from Humbird in that quota call.  He served in France for over a year.  Soon after his return he went tot eh state of New York where he made his home until his untimely death.

 

He located at Hilton, and for a number of years he was employed in the chemistry department of the Eastman Kodak Co.  But he liked the outdoor life in the mountains and devoted much of his time in later years to that of being a guide to hunters and pleasure seekers.

 

He was a member of the Hiscock-Fishbaugh Post of the American Legion and of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

 

Mr. DeLong is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nellie DeLong, one sister, Mrs. J.A. Burchell of Humbird, one brother, earl DeLong of Two Rivers, and one half-sister, Mrs. Allen Tackabery of Brighton, Ontario, Canada.  His father, mother, and one half-brother preceded him in death.  His mother preceding him by only three months and seventeen days..  Several nieces, nephews and cousins, besides a host of friends also survive.

 

Funeral services were held at the Adams Funeral Home, Hilton, Saturday afternoon, Oct. 25, Rev. I Vincent Floyd officiating.  The Hiscock-Fishbaugh Post, American Legion, had charge of the committal services at the Parma Union Cemetery. He attained the age of 51 years, 5 months and 8 days.
