Shooting Affair Still a Mystery (7 January 1910)

Up to this time the authorities are still at loss as to the guilty one in firing those shots on Christmas eve, which severely injured, Mark Lazotte and Albion Pagenkopf.  The hearing of James Finnegan who was arrested on suspicion was postponed until January 15.  It is our opinion and a good many others seem to agree with us that the shooting was done by one of the party who were passing the Finnegan home, probably not with the intention of injuring anyone. From all reports the two victims will recover. We wish to correct a mistake in our last week’s write-up of the affair. We said that the two young men were returning from the Eagle Hotel where supper was served that night.  The proprietor of the hotel however informs us that they were not at his place at all and furthermore that his bar-room was closed at 10 o’clock on the night in question and not opened again after that hour.  (More on this episode in next issue)
