Bernard C. Denk, 83, Greenwood, passed away at the Kourtland House, Greenwood, on Thursday, June 2, 2011. Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 11, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Greenwood, from 10 a.m., until the time of funeral services at 11 a.m. Rev. Joseph Follmar will officiate. Inurnment will follow in the Greenwood City Cemetery.

 

Bernard Charles Denk was born on Oct. 12, 1927, in the town of Warner, rural Greenwood, the son of William Sr. and Mary (nee Gintner) Denk. He was raised on the family farm and received his education at St. Mary’s Parochial School. He married Beverly Haeuser on June 23, 1948, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Greenwood. He worked at the Greenwood Co-op Association for three years and then as an exterminator for Buchann Laboratories for nine years. He then stated his own business, Midstate Extermenators, which he operated until retiring and selling the business in 1993. After retiring , he was custodian for the Greenwood City Cemetery for eight years. He had many interests, but especially loved golfing, playing cards and bowling. He was a member of St.Mary’s Catholic Church.

 

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Beverly, Greenwood; three sons, Dennis (Connie) Denk, Eau Claire, Steven (Patti) Denk, Greenwood, and Russell (Linda Zimbelman) Denk, Madison; two daughters, Debra Swiggman, DeForest, and Marla (Edwin) Ruano, Phoenix, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four brothers, Virgil Denk, Decorah, Iowa, William (Marcia) Denk, Greenwood, John (Shirley) Waukesha and Ronald (Mary Jo) Denk, Cedarburg; one sister, Dorothy Wagner, Greenwood; a sister-in-law Margaret Denk, Phoenix, Ariz.; a brother-in-law, Harold Lyon, Onalaska; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Lauren Swiggum; one grandson. Mitchell Denk; three brothers, Gerald Denk, Donald Denk and Leonard Denk; and one sister, Marion Lyon.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be given to St. Mary’s Memorial Fund of the Kourtland House Greenwood.
