Joseph G. Koeberl, 81, of Neillsville lost his battle with cancer Monday, May 30, 2011, at his home.

 

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 6, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Marshfield, with visitation from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

 

Buchanan Funeral Home of Neillsville is assisting the family with arrangements.

Joseph G. Koeberl, 81, of Neillsville lost his battle with cancer Monday, May 30, 2011, at his home.

 

Joseph was born April 10, 1930, in Marshfield to Henry and Lena (Stark) Koeberl.  Joe was the 10th of 12 children.  He was baptized and received his education at St. John’s Catholic Church in Marshfield, where his father was then a janitor.

 

When age 17, he joined the U. S. Air Force and served for three years.

 

In 1950, he married Bonita M. Washburn at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Milwaukee. They had five children, Gregory P., Cynthia Neist, Paul J., Doreen A. Gatzow and Kevin.

 

Joe retired after 21 years with Miller Brewing Company, where he earned a Crystal Award for hours of work in perfecting the shelf life of Miller Draft Beer.  He was a member of Local 9 Brewery Union, of the Marshfield Eagles Club and the 1897 Clark County Jail Museum.

 

He is survived by his wife, Bonita, of Neillsville and four children; two sisters, Valerie Fahey and Cecila Richmeier; one brother, Raymond; eight grand children and seven great-grandchildren.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Gregory; four sisters, Marie Specht, Rita Logan, Veronica Brown and Margaret Thompson; and four brothers: Henry, Sylvester, Vincent and George.

 

A memorial service was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 6, 2011, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Marshfield. Burial was in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Marshfield, with military rites conducted by Mueller-Hintz Post 1866 VFW of Marshfield.
