Mayer, Anton #2 (11 DEC 1870 - 17 FEB 1943)

Anton Mayer, youngest son of Caper and Elizabeth Mayer, was born in Stetton, near Laucheim, Wurttemberg, Germany, Dec. 11, 1870.

At the age of 14, he came to this country and spent about a year in Missouri, from there coming to Wisconsin.

On March 1, 1897 he was united in marriage with Miss Rosine Baumgartner, who preceded him in death Nov. 8, 1938.  They started farming on the farm situated three miles north of Humbird (Clark Co., Wis.), which was his home the remainder of his life.  To this union seven children were born: Ted, Tony, Herman, Anna, Joseph, Tracy and Helen.

Mr. Mayer departed this life at the Black River Falls Hospital on Feb. 17, 1943, after a brief serious illness, having attained the age of 72 years, 2 months and 6 days.

He was of a family of seven sisters and brothers, only two of whom survive, two sister living at the old home in Wurttemberg.

All his life he was an active member of the Catholic Church, and funeral services were held in St. Joseph’s Church, Fairview on Saturday forenoon at 10 o’clock.  The Rev. A. J. Ausman officiated, and interment was in the church cemetery.

He leaves to mourn, four sons: Ted of Fairchild, Tony, Herman, and Joseph, Humbird; and three daughters, Mrs. Anna Zimmerman, Mrs. Tracy Bemis, Humbird, and Mrs. Helen Dimmitt, Augusta; and twenty grandchildren.

The services were largely attended by friends and neighbors from here and away.  Those from away attending were Mrs. Katy Daniels, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Kaufman and family, Augusta; Mr. and Mrs. John Berg, Miss Rosie Kaufman, Eau Claire; Mr. and Mrs. Gregory Gorst and son Robert, Neillsville.

Mr. Mayer always took an active part in church and social affairs, and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.  He was a patient sufferer to the end.
