Shaw, Richard (21 DEC 1941-25 APR 2011)

 

Richard J. "Dick" Shaw, 69, Neillsville, died on Monday, April 25, 2011, at his farm as a result of a farming accident. Visitation will be held from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m., on Thursday, April 28, at the Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville, and also on Friday, April 29, from 10 a.m. until funeral services t 11 a.m., at the United Church of Christ, Neillsville. Rev. Bryan Olson will officiate. Burial will be in the Neillsville City Cemetery. His grandchildren will serve as casket bearers.

 

Richard James Shaw was born on Dec. 21, 1941, the son of Francis and Leona (nee Kuborn) Shaw, in Yankton, S.D. After his mother’s death in 1942, his father married Margaret Koupal. He was educated at Tabor Public Schools. The family moved to Wisconsin in 1958, where Richard met and married the love of his life, Bonnie Lemons, on Aug. 17, 1961 He worked several farming jobs, including Mullins Cheese, Granton, Neillsville Milk Products and Bob Shaw Heating & Cooling, Neillsville, until he purchased a farm of his own in 1971. He and Bonnie farmed side-by-side until he retired from dairy farming in 2002, They were currently doing custom heifer raising on the home farm, and he was employed with Mid-State Truck, Marshfield. He was a devoted husband to his wife of 49 years, a great dad, and a fun, lovable grandpa. He loved his family, the outdoors and country-life. He was an avid hunter, enjoyed watching sports games and NASCAR, and liked playing a good game of dirty clubs, sheepshead or uecker. He was a member of the United Church of Christ and served as supervisor for the town of Weston for several years.

 

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie, five children, Gregory (Sarah) Shaw, Greenwood, Anthony (Brenda) Shaw, Marshfield, Lana (Jeffrey) Willers, Waunakee, Jennifer (Josh) Cline, Spencer, and Ryan (Bobbie Jo) Shaw, Neillsville; 13 grandchildren, Sophia, Brooke and Ethan Shaw, Kayla (Matt) Flink, Leah and Mara Shaw, Keegan and Kaylee Willers, Devon, Dylan and Dominick Cline, and Madelyn Jo Shaw; one great-grandchild, Cashton Flink; six brothers, Donald (Shirley) Shaw, Roswell, N.M., Duane (Lill) Shaw, San Antonio, Texas, Leonard (Myrna) Shaw, Vesper, Kenneth (Ramona) Shaw, Eagle, Dave (Linda) Shaw, Mukwonago, and Dan (Jean) Shaw, Parker, Colo.; a sister, Eleanor Mazourek, Neillsville; his mother-in-law, Edna Lemons, Neillsville, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Delores; and his father-in-law, Lawrence Lemons.
