Merrillan, Wisconsin (23 November 1961)

 

Mr. and Mrs. George Hoffman spent Saturday night in Maiden Rock and attended the Pierce, Pepin County Carriers’ dinner and meeting.  (George is the carrier for the Route 1 Merrillan mail route.)

 

Mrs. George Andrews has re-entered the Black River Falls hospital.

 

The Merrillan homemakers met at the home of Mrs. John Gard last Wednesday night. The Christmas party will be held in the Vilas Smith home at a date to be announced later.

 

Friday, November 10, several friends from Merrillan and Alma Center spent an enjoyable afternoon helping Mrs. Clint (Lois) Burghardt celebrate her birthday.

 

Miss Carole Gile called her folks Sunday night from Gardena, Calif. She had toured the area which was destroyed by fire at Los Angeles, thinking her folks would be concerned about it.  Carole is attending El Comito College.

 

Mr. and Mrs. George Gjerseth spent a week in Illinois, returning home Wednesday night before the snow storm. They visited their daughter, Georgia, and her family in Morris and Dona and family in McHenry. They called on relatives in Mundelein, Harvard and Big Foot, and stayed overnight at Oscar Gjerseth’s in Beloit.  George had x-ray treatment in Madison Wednesday morning and had lunch with Mrs. Cecil Ott.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Bill Potter, Roger Matson and three friends of Janesville were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Mattson.


Mr. and Mrs. Gene McKevitt spent a few days last week in New Lisbon, with Mrs. Andy Rosenberger and Randy.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Bill Day of Kenosha were Saturday visitors at the Alfred Mattson home.

 

Mrs. Bill Frank and children of Neillsville spent the weekend at Alfred Frank’s. Sunday morning Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Meinholdt visited there.

 

William Vincent and Alfred Stahr of Sun Prairie spent a few days last week with Mrs. Ernest Burlingame.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Andrews and Raymond Andrews of Milwaukee, Mrs. Janet Hurtis and daughter of Chetek spent the weekend with their parents and other relatives.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Gib Gile and Bob entertained at a pre-Thanksgiving dinner Sunday. Their guests were: Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Upton, Mr. and Mrs. Gay Upton and children of Black River Falls, Mr. and Mrs. Darwin Graves and family of Neillsville, Miss Sadie Wagner of Sparta, Dale Austin of Beloit and Elwood Austin of Wausau.  Dale and Elwood came to hunt over the weekend.
