Paulsen, Christian (21 FEB 1905 - 20 JUN 1958)

Friends and residents of the community were astonished and shocked when they learned Friday of the sudden death of Christian Paulsen, a lifelong resident of the Withee (Clark Co., Wis.) community.

Mr. Paulsen had begun the day with his normal routine and then became suddenly ill.  Immediately he was taken to Victory Memorial Hospital at Stanley where he passed away that night.  Medical authorities attributed his death to cancer.

He was 53 years of age.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from Nazareth Lutheran Church, of which he had been a lifelong member.  Rev. W. Clayton Nielsen conducted the service, during which two vocal selections were sung by the parish choir with Louise Nansen at the organ.  Interment was made at Riverside Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Dr. M. V. Nason, Ben Hill., Martin Keskimaki, Elmer Venet, Bernard Auberg and Sig Sorensen.  In charge of floral offerings were Mrs. M. V. Nason, Mrs. Elmer Venet, Mrs. Ben Hill, Mrs. Martin Keskimaki, Mrs. Roy Auberg and Mrs. William Hoeper.

Christian Paulsen, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Paul Paulson, was born Feb. 21, 1905, in Chicago, Ill.  As a youngster he moved to the Frenchtown community with his parents where they settled on a farm.  He has ever since continued to make the farm his home and pursued farming as a vocation.

He was an ardent sportsman, devoting much of his time to hunting and fishing and taking an active part in the affairs and sponsorships of the Black River Rod and Gun Club, ever since its conception many years ago.  His other interests centered on his farm and church life.

Christian Paulson, who was unmarried, is survived by two brothers, Martin of Withee, and Hans, who resides on the farm, and one niece, Nora Paulsen.  One brother, Alfred, preceded him in death.
