Klatt, Frances (15 September 1915 - 22 March 2011)

Frances Klatt, 95, formerly of Fairchild passed away Tuesday afternoon, March 22, 2011, at Our House Memory Care in Eau Claire.

France Klatt, daughter of Stephen and Amanda "Molly" (Kuberra) Polus, was born Sept. 15, 1915 in Cleveland Township, Jackson County. She attended country school and was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Catholic Church in Fairchild, where she was a member for many years. She was united in marriage to Chester Klatt on May 5, 1938. The couple farmed near Neillsville before moving to their farm near Alma Center in April of 1947. When they retired from farming they moved to Fairchild in 1967, where they lived on Camp Road, near the Fairchild Pond. After moving into Fairchild she was employed at the Sunset Nursing Home.

Frances was a wonderful cook; she loved preparing Sunday and holiday meals. Over the years she had collected a large number of recipes through friends, magazines, newspapers, over the radio and television.

She never prepared most of them but was known for great peanut butter fudge and upside down cakes. She enjoyed playing solitaire, working word puzzles, listening to polka music, growing vegetables and then canning them. She was able to enjoy spending time with her grandchildren throughout her life. She will be fondly remembered as grandma who had her own speed, which was usually very slow.  She was better known to family and friends as Franny.

She is survived by two sons, Bruce (Edna) Klatt of Alma Center, Timothy (Rosemarie) Klatt of Fall Creek; two sisters, Marian Worchel of Richland Center, Rose Marie Edington of Altoona; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father in 1961; mother in 1986; husband, Chester on Jan. 29, 1972; son, David on May 17, 2002; and siblings, Agnes Ravonet, Florence Frueh, Julia Walczyk, Leo and Phillip Polus.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 25, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church in Fairchild, with burial in the Fairchild Cemetery.  Friends may call one hour prior to services Friday at the church.

The family is assisted by the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta.

Thank you note: The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff of Community Health Partnership, Our House Memory Care on Hamilton Avenue and St. Joseph's Hospice for the excellent care shown to our mother and grandmother while she was in your care. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
