Wolfe, Verlyn D. #2 (8 OCT 1931 - 24 AUG 1955)

 

Funeral services for Verlyn Douglas Wolfe, 24, who died at his home on route 1, Wednesday Aug. 24, 1955, were held in the Evangelical Reformed Church at Colby at 2 p.m. Saturday.

 

Verlyn Wolfe was born on a farm in the town of Beaver (Carl Co., Wis.) , Oct 8, 1931, and lived there most of his life.  For a short time he was employed in Milwaukee.  He received his education a a rural school in his home district and attended the Loyal High School.  May 14, 1951 he entered U.S. service, receiving his training in Arkansas.  Most of his years of service were spent in Korea, with eight weeks in Japan.  He received his discharge in February 1953.  He was married to Audris Schoelzel, Jan. 15, 1955.  He has been employed as a cheesemaker.  He was a member of the Lutheran Church.

 

He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Nancy Lee Margaret; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Wolfe of Loyal, route 1; one sister, Mrs. Edward (Ardith) Domine, Milwaukee; and four brothers, Richard, Tommy, Ronald and Robert, all at home.

 

The Rev. V. O. Grossbhuesch of Colby officiated at the funeral services.  Hymns were sung by Marvin Schnable, church organist, and a trio, Mrs. Arthur Olson, and the Misses Marlene and Joyce Pieper, sang, "Nearer My Go to Thee."

 

The Colby American Legion was in charge of the military funeral.

 

Pallbearers were James Helm, William Martin, Delmar Pieper, Merlin Delo, Wilbur Witte, and Richard Witte.

 

Mrs. James Helm, Mrs. William Martin, Miss Ruth Wiersig, and Miss JoAnn Block were flower girls.

 

Interment was in the Colby Cemetery.

 

Out of town people attending the services were Mr. and Mrs. Edward Domine, Mr. and Mrs. John Fina, Paul Wolfe and son Terry, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Paddon, daughter Sharon and son Fred, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Otto, Mr. and Mrs. Art Olson and children, and Mrs. Orvin Litka and daughter Gwendolyn, Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Schoelzel Jr., and children, Union Grove; Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Schoelzel and children, Round Lake Beach, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Schoelzel, Waukegan, Ill.; Glen Schoelzel, Appleton; Darnell Schoelzel and Mr. and Mrs. John Sheets, Abbotsford; Mr. and Mrs. Edward Watchendonk and children, Stevens Point; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Brunt and Mrs. Eugene Lee and daughter, Linda, Glenview, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Collier and son Ernie, Marshfield; Dr. and Mrs. E. F. Hill, Spring Valley; Mr. and Mrs. Allen Gutenberg, Mr. and Mrs. Philip Vollrath, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Seibold, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Abel, and Mrs. Clarence Liebzeit, Greenwood; Mrs. George Foelsch Jr., and Mrs. Margaret Foelsch, Spencer, with many from Loyal and other neighboring towns.
