Joseph H. Goergen, 52, Granton, died on Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011, at the Memorial Medical Center, Neillsville. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, Feb. 15, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Loyal. Rev. Jerome Naduvathaniyil officiated. Burial of cremains followed in St. Anthony’s Cemetery.


Joseph Goergen was born on July 21, 1958, in Kenosha, the son of Vernon and Joyce (nee Heinen) Goergen. He was raised and received his education in the Kenosha area. In 1974, the family moved to a farm in the town of York. He worked at Raecon Farms, Neillsville, for eight years. He then began raising his own veal, and later beef cattle, on their farm. In 2000, he went to work at Nelson Industries (now Cummins) , Neillsville, where he was employed until his death. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. He has many interests, but especially loved fishing, motorcycling, and collecting antique tractors and guns.


Survivors include his mother, Joyce Goergen, Granton; his father, Vernon Goergen, Kenosha; two brothers, Mike (Laura) Goergen, Pittsville, and Ted (Kay) Goergen, Somers; one sister, Kathy (Lincoln) Bergerton, Loyal; one sister-in-law, Roxanne Goergen, Gridley, Calif.; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


He was preceded in death by one brother, Francis and a nephew, Joshua Bergerson.
