Drake, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Drake (Golden - 4 July 1954)

 

Walter Drake and Sadie Miles were married July 4th, 1904 at the Methodist parsonage by Rev. james A. Hill. They were natives of the Spokeville community and lived there about two years after their marriage, then went to Tacoma, Washington for a couple years.  After returning to Wisconsin they bought a farm south of Spokeville where they lived about twenty years.  The past twenty-five years they have resided on a farm in the Town of Beaver.

 

Last Saturday a one o’clock dinner was served to the family and close relatives, all of the children and their families being there for the occasion, Mrs. Geo. Brenner, Sr., Mrs. John Olson, Sr., and Mrs. Chester Hebert were the very efficient servers.

 

Sunday morning all of the relatives attended the Methodist Church services in a group, sitting in seats reserved for them, about 50 being in attendance.  After church services, they were all served dinner at the Loyal Café, which is operated by a cousin. After the dinner, open house was held at the farm home from 2 p.m. until late evening.

 

The children of Mr. and Mrs. Drake are: Mrs. Beatrice Rosick of Manitowoc, Mrs. Helmut (Vivian) Schultz of Marshfield, Mrs. Albert (Clara) Oestreich of Loyal, George of Waukegan, Illinois and Mrs. Ben (Trevalyn) Marsinkus of Wauconda, Illinois.

 

The honored couple received many nice and useful gifts, among them a gold money tree with 50 silver dollars wrapped in gold paper from Mrs. Drake’s sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. George Whitfield of Evanston, Ill., who were unable to attend because of the illness of Mr. Whitfield.  Several beautiful bouquets and a purse of money were also received with the many cards.

 

Relatives from away who attended were: Mr. and Mrs. Price Cook of Sidney, Montana, (Mrs. Cook is a sister of Mrs. Drake); Mr. and Mrs. Dick McGarvey and daughter of Jamestown, North Dakota; Mr. and Mrs. Terrey McGarvey and son and Mr. and Mrs. Charles McGarvey and family of Bismarck, North Dakota; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Thomas of Jackson, Michigan; Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Lemke of Hawkins; Mr. and Mrs. Elwin Cook of Loyal, and Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Fields and sons of Pittsville.

 

Friends who attended the Saturday dinner with the relatives were Mr. and Mrs. Wellie Davis of Marshfield, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Kauffmann and Mrs. Jessie Mortimer of Neillsville, and Adolph Gretzner of Loyal.

 

On Sunday, open house was attended by Mrs. Nelson Truax and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Baum of Waukegan, Illinois; Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Schultz and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Miles of Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. Arleigh Davis and daughter of Verona, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Davis of Chili; Mr. and Mrs. Emil Henninger, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Schmidtke, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Schlinsog and family, Mr. and Mrs. Everett Kauffman and family, Mrs. Walter Minett, Mrs. Louise Schlinsog and Miss Ruby Anthony, all of Granton; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Rohloff and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Stevens and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Ploman and family and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Seefeldt, all of Spencer, and many friends of Loyal and vicinity greeted the honored couple.
