Slemec, Joseph (10 March 1888 - 4 October 1960)

 

Joseph Slemec, 72, of Willard died Tuesday afternoon in Neillsville, where he was taken the day before following a stroke.

 

Mr. Slemec was born March 10, 1888, in Yugoslavia.  He came to the United States in 1911 and worked in the iron and coal mines in Ely, Minn., and Colorado before coming to Willard in 1916.

 

He was married May 22, 1918, in Willard to Frances Fortuna.  They settled on the present farm, thee miles west of Willard, where he had resided since.

 

Mr. Slemec served as assessor in the Town of Hendren for several years.

 

He is survived by his wife, six sons: Rudolph of Willard; Valentine, Anton, Edward and Robert, all of Milwaukee; and James of Waukegan, Ill.; and one daughter, Mrs. Lawrence (Josephine) Drescher of Neillsville.  Two brothers, Frank and Valentine Slemec of Yugoslavia and two grandchildren also survive.

 

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon from the Hill Funeral Home in Greenwood. The rites were conducted by the Slovenian National Benefit society, with Mike Krultz, Sr., officiating.  Burial was made in the National Cemetery of Willard.
