After high school, she moved to Milwaukee and worked as a nanny, for a short time. She married Donald L. Miller on June 28, 1941, at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Greenwood. She then worked as a bookkeeper for the Greenwood Co-op and then later for Harold Horn, at the root beer stand, for many years. She remarried on July 18, 1968, to Harve Heck. She farmed with Harve until his death in September 1985. She stayed on the farm until moving back to Greenwood in 1988, where she lived until moving to Marshfield in June 2007. She was a member of the Immanuel United Church of Christ, its Ladies Guild and had served on the church Board.
