Humbird, Wisconsin Area (January - 1959)

 

A party to celebrate several birthdays was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Burchell Saturday night.  A lunch, including a large birthday cake, was served.

 

The 4-H Atomic Workers, numbering about 25, enjoyed a sleigh ride Saturday night at the Levi Shirley home.

 

A little fire scare at the "Lucky 12 Tavern" brought out the Alma Center and Humbird fire trucks Monday forenoon.  However only small damage was done to the living quarters.

 

A skating party on the lake Sunday afternoon was enjoyed by a large group of children.  The treat planned by the Legion boys failed to materialize, for no wieners were to be had.  Better luck next Sunday, kids.

 

The back room at the bank building is now being used as a barber shop, and Arnt Castad of Osseo is the barber.

 

Mrs. Florence Langer of Detroit Lakes, Minn., and Mrs. Howard Phillips of Pillager, Minn. were guests from Tuesday night until Friday at the homes of their relatives, Mrs. W. F. Hein and Mrs. Cora Stanley.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Lueth had as guests Sunday his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lueth of Curtiss.  The men enjoyed ice fishing, and caught their limit.

 

Mrs. Fred Olson entertained a group of friends in the home of her mother, Mrs. Art Johnson, Sunday evening. Those present were: Mrs. Donald Lund, Mrs. Jim Trachsel, Mrs. Dick Walker, Mrs. Karl Johnson, Mrs. Andy Johnson and Mrs. Larry Fitzmaurice of Neillsville.  Mr. and Mrs. Olson plan to leave this week for his appointment in the service.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Cullen Dignin, Mrs. Edith Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Mahlon Lund, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Losey, Mrs. Mary Jenswold, Mrs. Ida Campbell and Mrs. Henry Laffe were in Fairchild Sunday for a fellowship dinner in the Methodist Church.  Dist. Supt. and Mrs. Ralph Reece were honored guests.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Ben Grottke of Neillsville and Mr. and Mrs. Andy Johnson called Sunday at the J. Art Johnson home.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Earl Zimmerman called Sunday evening at the Rheinhardt Zimmerman home in Black River Falls.

 

The Royal Neighbor Lodge will meet Wednesday, February 4, at the home of Mrs. Alma Zimmerman.

 

The Women’s Guild of St. John’s church will meet Thursday, February 5, at 2 p.m. in the church social room.  Mrs. Fred Rupnow and Mrs. Clarence Giloy will serve.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Louie Fitzmaurice spent Sunday with her sister, Mrs. Clara Lamb.  Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Lamb of Janesville were weekend guests there, also.

 

Mr. and Mrs. George Michels and Mr. and Mrs. Francis Michels of Alma Center were supper guests last Sunday at the Louie Fitzmaurice home.

 

Mrs. Emma O’Leary returned Saturday from her visit in Chicago at the home of Donald DeLong.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Cernik of Neillsville were guests Sunday at the Jake Fitzmaurice home, and LeRoy Fitzmaurice of Janesville spent the weekend with home folks.

 

Chester Klatt of Alma Center called at the Newton home Monday.
