Hartl, Janet June (Uhlig) (1933? - September 7, 2010)

Janet June (Uhlig) Hartl, 77, of Onalaska passed away on Sept.7, 2010, at Sauer Memorial, Winona, Minn.

She was born in Dorchester to Alvin and Laura (Klemetson) Uhlig who preceded her in death, her mother on July 10, 2004, age  91 and her father, June 8, 2010, age 101 and her loving husband, Norbert, March 27, 1984.

Janet married Norbert E. Hartl,  of Unity, on Oct. 1, 1949. They lived for a short while in Loyal and Minneapolis, Minn. In the early 50's they moved to La Crosse, finally settling in a home Jan's father built for them near Onalaska. They lived many years there together, being joined by three little girls. Many family and friends remember their warm hospitality, welcoming one and all, even strangers to their home. There were many fishing stories told across the table and often some of the latest pranks Jan and Norb would pull on one another. Sadly, this was all cut short with the death of her husband after 35 years of marriage.

But Janet, being one of Jehovah's Witnesses for many years, was a woman of courage and strong faith. She drew comfort from the Bible's hope of a resurrection to life on a beautiful paradise earth where sickness and death would be no more. She knew one day she would experience the joy of seeing Norbert again, as well as many other family and friends. This hope moved her to spend her life for the next 18 years as a full-time volunteer, sharing with others the promises contained in the Lord's Prayer. Janet enjoyed teaching people the meaning of that prayer, that by means of God's Kingdom, one day that paradise lost would again be realized. Even in her remaining years when health problems set in, she was still known for her evangelizing spirit.

Janet is survived by those three daughters, all living in Winona. Vangelee (Steven) Peterson, Victoria (Clint) Thorpe, Veleda (Michael) Laiacona. She has seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, Alfred (Viola) Uhlig of Abbotsford, Robert (Sharee) Uhlig, Dorchester; and one sister, Yvonne (Adrian) Strom, Cambridge, Minn.

A  Memorial Service for Janet will be held at the Winona Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 161 Whitten Street, at 1:00, Sunday, September 19, Mr. John J. Swanson presiding.
