Kuehnest, Wilbur (Accident - 17 December 1928)

Monday morning the east bound passenger train struck a Chevrolet coach at the Hewett Street crossing and wrecked it almost beyond repair.  The car was owned by and driven by Wilbur Kuehnest of Abbotsford, who is here working with the line crew of the Northern States Power Co.  He was driving north and did not see the electric signal moving back and forth as he came down the hill. As he approached the crossing he saw the train and made an effort to turn his car alongside the track, but was unable to do so with the result that he was hit broadside.  His car was pushed about fifteen feet along the track, but as the train was going very slowly it was stopped almost instantly.  Kuehnest crawled out of the car through the broken window and escaped without a scratch.
