Kern, Lena #2 (29 AUG 1874 - 27 OCT 1966)

 

Services were conducted Monday afternoon, Oct. 31, at the Hill Funeral Home here for Mrs. George Kern, who died Oct. 27, 1966.  The Rev. Arvid Myrhwold, pastor of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Greenwood, officiated, and burial was made in the Riverside Cemetery at Withee.

 

Pallbearers, all grandsons, were William Moldenhauer, Roger Kern, Randolph Serocki, Dennis Serocki, Timothy Mueller, and William Mueller.

 

Mrs. Arvid Myhrwold, accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Don Warner, sang "In the Garden" and "Abide with Me."

 

The former Lena Sundemeyer was born to Henry and Lena Sundemeyer Aug. 29, 1874, in Lippe Det Mold, Germany, and at the age of five years came with her parents to the United States.  The family settled in Sheboygan and two years later moved to a farm northwest of Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.).

 

She was married to George Kern on Jan. 22, 1896 in Greenwood.  They made their home in the Greenwood area.  Mr. Kern died Aug. 24, 1962.

 

Survivors are five son, George H. of Marshfield; Clarence of Georgetown, Minn.; William, address unknown.  Theodore and Edward of Greenwood; four daughters, Miss Rose Kern of greenwood; Mrs. Otto (Mabel) Moldenhauer, Mrs. Leonard (Hazel) Mueller and Mrs. Violet Serocki, all of Chicago; a brother, William Sundemeyer of Groton, S.D.; three sisters, Mrs. Fred (Jennie) Clocksene of Groton, S.D.; Mrs. Minnie Glau of Seattle, Wash.; and Mrs. Marie Meinhardt of Greenwood; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

 

Attending the services were Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Clocksene, Groton, S.D.; Mrs. Elizabeth Sundemeyer, Andover, S.D.; Mr. and Mrs. Otto Moldenhauer, Mrs. Violet Seroski and sons, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Mueller and children, and Mr. and Mrs. William Warner, all of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. William Moldenhauer and children, Appleton; Clarence Kern, Georgetown, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. George Kern and son, and Mrs. Lorraine Markee, Marshfield.
