Christie, Larry G. (11 July 1952 - 19 June 2010)

Larry G. Christie, 57, of Madison passed away Saturday, June 19, 2010 as the result of a logging accident.

He was born July 11, 1952, the son of Eugene and Eva (Kalkoven) Christie.  Larry graduated from Neillsville High School in 1970.  Larry married Sally Partridge Feb. 16, 1974, in Beloit.  Larry attended the Hertzing Institute, graduating with a computer technology degree.  He had been in the printing business for the past 35 years.  Together with his wife, Sally, they opened SprintPrint II, operating the business for the past 20 years with partners, Liz and Phil VanKampen.

Larry created close relationships with his employees and his customers.  He enjoyed all sports and loved playing and coaching baseball and softball at Kennedy Little League.  He especially loved coaching the Mad City Stingers, a softball team he coached for more than 10 years.  Larry was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed spending time at their cabin in Tomahawk, a place that brought their family closer together.

Larry’s greatest love and pride was for his three children, Anna, 28, a lawyer in St. Paul, MN; Sam, 26, a general contractor for log homes in the Smokey Mountains; and Jill, 24, graduating July 1, 2010, as a physician assistant in Brooklyn, NY.  He stood by and loved his children unconditionally, always supporting their dreams.

Larry is survived by his loving wife, Sally; three children, Anna, Sam and Jill; two brothers, Richard (Kay) Christie and kenneth (Pat) Christie; sisters-in-law, Sue (Don) Dietsch and Sandy (Carl) Wiggert; many nieces, nephews and cousins; many special friends, particularly Phil and Liz VanKampen, Mary Jo "Lankey" and Leonard Ayres, John and Tina Hewitt and "The Posse;" all the close friends and neighbors at the cabin, especially Kit and Chris Williams and Tom and Laura Erdmann; the neighbors at home, Bill and Mary Schmelzer and Tina Washington; and his buddy Brooklyn, his Labrador.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Eva, and parents-in-law, Beth and Robert Partridge.

Funeral services were held Thursday, June 24, at 7 p.m. at St. Dennis Catholic Church, Madison with visitation from 3 p.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for a fund to be established in Larry’s name.
