Amundson, Marie (19 JUNE 1918 - 10 JUNE 2010)

 

Marie A. Amundson, 91, Eau Claire, formerly of Willard, passed away on Thursday, June 10, 2010, at Dove Nursing Home, Eau Claire. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, June 15, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Willard. Rev. Joseph Follmar and Monsignnor Matthew Malnar cocelebrated. Burial was in Holy Family Catholic Cemetery.

 

Marie Agnes Pierce was born on June 29, 1918, in rural La Crosse County, to Charles and Josephine (nee Bahr) Pierce. She received her education at area schools and graduated from La Crosse Aquinas High School. She married Omer E. Amundson in June 1940, at St. James Catholic Church, La Crosse. After marrying, Marie and Omer worked for several years in Wilmington, Del., before returning to Green Coulee. She worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for Aquinas High School in La Crosse from 1956-60. In the early 1960s they purchased land in Galesville on which they dairy-farmed. In 1988, they sold the farm and retired to Willard. She moved to Eau Claire in 1999, where she resided until her death.

 

She was a Catholic Daughter for more than 50 years and a member of the Altar Society of St. James Catholic Church in La Crosse. She was also a member of the Council of Catholic Women at Holy Family Parish in Willard.

 

Survivors include her daughter, Kay Hazuga, Pensacola, Fla.; a foster daughter, Mary Manulik, Beach Park, ill.; three grandchildren, James Hazuga Jr., Hialeah, Fla., Todd (Marie) Hazuga, Ocean Springs, Miss., and Brian (Jennifer) Hazuga, Athens, Ala.; seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Dorothy Roesler, La Crosse, and Charlotte Nesseth, La Crosse.

 

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Omer; five brothers; George, Frank, Charles Jr., Donald and Thomas; and one sister, Wilma Peterson.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to Sacred Heart Hospital, 900 W. Clairemont Ave. Eau Claire, WI 54701
