(A tribute in Memory of Donald James Tufts by the Minnesota Organization of Blind)

Apart from the deep personal sorrow in all our hearts this day, Donald’s sudden departure from our midst leaves a most regrettable gap in the front ranks of the Minnesota Organization of the Blind which will require much time and doing to close.

Our sorrow is made more acute by the irreplaceable loss of a loyal and faithful worker, who dedicated devotion to service of the blind cannot easily be surpassed or even equaled.

Donald could always ben counted upon to defend and champion the rights of the blind people whoever and wherever the occasion might demand.  In his many years of valuable service as member of the Board of Directors and as chairman of numerous active committees, we have never known Donald to shirk his responsibilities even though it often meant a personal sacrifice of money, time, and energy.  Never, we are sure, was there a thought of personal gains or reward in the rather thankless performance of his services.  In all this, the motivating thought ever uppermost in his mind was that only by advancing the best interests of the Minnesota Organization of Blind could the interests of all the blind best be served.

As the organization grew and expanded in its scope, so likewise did Donald grow in stature and fullness of his measure of devotion.  What more fitting words of praise and commendation can we express than to say, "We gratefully acknowledge your maximum best spent on our behalf as we in turn give our humble thanks and gratitude".  To all who mourn his untimely passing, the Minnesota Organization of Blind extends its deepest sympathy.

Rest in peace Donald, but we remain to carry on where you left off.  God grant that we may do so in the same spirit and good humor and courage with which you met life’s battles.
