Kangas, Onnie A. (30 NOV 1907 - 31 JAN 1957)

 

Onnie Armas Kangas passed away Jan. 31, 1957 at eleven o’clock in the evening at the Marshfield Hospital after a short illness.  He was born Nov. 30, 1907 at Ishpeming, Mich. And came to this community at the age of four with his parents.  They have resided since on a farm northwest of Withee (Clark Co., Wis.).  He was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church of Owen and was active on the church council.  He was married on June 7, 1952 to Sylvia Hutter.

 

Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 4th at the Bethany Lutheran Church at one thirty o’clock in the afternoon with the Rev. Aukee of Rudyard, Mich. officiating.  He was laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery.  Dan Arola officiated at the organ and the church choir sang two hymns.

 

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Kangas of Owen, two step-children, Edward and Marlene Hutter, his parents Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kangas of Withee, two brothers, William Kangas of Owen, and Tiovo of Withee, and one sister Eva (Mrs. Leslie Buss) of Withee, two nieces, one nephew, six cousins and a host of friends.

 

Pallbearers were Elmer Venet, John Kujala, William Maki, Charles Kovatch, Martin Ryona and Viotto Mutka.  Mrs. Ruth Wilson, Mrs. Lilly Kile, Mrs. Irma Jablonic, Mrs. Sophia Kovatch, Mrs. Irene Maki, Mrs. Elsie Zielanis, Mrs. Winnie Venet and Mrs. Pearl Arola were flower girls.

 

Out of town people who attended included Mr. and Mrs. Everett Hill, Pine City, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Tom Ketala, Ironwood, Mich.; Mr. and Mrs. Gelhouse of Madison, Wis.; Rev. and Mrs. Henry T. Aukee and children of Rudyard, Mich.; Mr. Victor Maki, Ironwood, Mich.; Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Petu, Mrs. Games Palmeiri, Mr. William Maki of Lake Forest, Ill.; Mr. Toivo Maki, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Maki, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Stroitor of Lake Willia, Ill. and Mr. and Mrs. Louis S. Smock and children from Fort Wayne, Ind., and Edward Hutter from Treasure Island, Calif.
