Nelson, James (1880? - 17 NOV 1956)

Funeral services were held at two o’clock Tuesday afternoon from the Phillip J. Weiss Funeral Home, Milwaukee, fro James Nelson, 76, a former pioneer and long time resident of the city of Owen (Clark Co., Wis.).  He passed away at his home at 2303 E. Belleview, Milwaukee, Saturday morning suffering from a heart condition.  John Barager, a former Owen resident, now residing in Milwaukee and a close friend of the family served as a pallbearer at Tuesday’s services.

James Nelson, Jim, as he was known to his many friends here, first came to Owen with his family when the lumbering industry was in a state of infancy, being employed as millwright and later planning mill boss of the John S. Owen Lumber Company.

He and his family remained here several years after the mill shut down.  Both of his children, Eunice and Charles, are graduates of the Owen school system.

In the mid-thirties Mr. and Mrs. Nelson moved to Ontagonen, Michigan, where he served for several years as superintendent of a planning mill.  Later they returned to Owen briefly prior to accepting a woodworking post in Milwaukee, which he held for a couple of years prior to his retirement.

Jim Nelson was a personable and affable person, a characteristic that made him memorable to his friends in this community.

His passing is mourned by his wife, Ida Barr Nelson; a daughter, Mrs. Ray (Eunice) Pietila, Naperville, Ill.; one son, Charles, Chatham, N.J., Robert Nelson, Chatham, N.J., Robert Nelson, Chatham, N.J.; brother of Mrs. H.
