George M. Klovas, age 83, of Thorp, passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital, in Marshfield, on Wednesday, April 21, 2010. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 24, 2010 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Willard.  Rev. Joseph Follmar officiated and burial followed in Holy Family Catholic Cemetery.  
 

Pallbearers were Kyle Carlson, Ryan Klovas, Brady Bielecki, Bill Klovas, Jr., Jerry Durham, and Bill Kowieski.  Visitation was held at the Thorp Funeral Home on Friday, April 23, 2010 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a combined parish and Knights of Columbus rosary service at 7 p.m.  Visitation was also held at the church, on Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. until time of service. 
 

George Matthew Klovas was born on September 7, 1926 in the Town of Mead, rural Thorp, the son of William Sr. and Antoinette (Lucas) Klovas.  He was raised in rural Thorp and received his education at the Butlerville Schools.  George enlisted in the U. S. Army Air Corp and served during WWII from December 20, 1945 until his honorable discharge on January 3, 1947.  He was united in marriage to Rosalie M. Niedzwiecki on October 25, 1947 at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church in Thorp.  They began their married life living in Kenosha, before moving back to Thorp in 1951, where they farmed until retirement.  Along with farming, George also was a heavy equipment operator for Plautz Bros. Construction, as well as a patrolman for the Township of Butler. 
 

He was a lifetime member of Holy family Catholic Church in Willard, a member of the Thorp American Legion Post #118, a member of the Knights of Columbus Queen of Peace Council #4634, and a member of the Rock Dam Rod and Gun Club. George enjoyed playing pool in league, playing cards and spending time at the casino.  He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with family and friends. 
 

George will be sadly missed by his three sons: James Klovas of Elma, WA, Jerry Klovas of Puyallup, WA, Ronald (Lynn) Klovas of Thorp; two daughters: Jenne Frenette and mary Beth (Gary) Petersen, both of Thorp; twelve grandchildren: Holly , Sarah, Jeriod, Rebecca, January, Kari, Jaclene, Aaron, Ryan, Jessica, Amy and Kyle; four great-grandchildren; Mya, Tyler, Ava and Brooklyn; two brothers: William Klovas, Sr. of Muskego, WI, Richard (Betty) Klovas of Hoquiam, WA; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 
 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rosalie, on September 12, 2008; and two sisters, Marian Garrett and Betty Isham. 
 

His family would like to thank the Thorp area Ambulance, and the staff at Our Lady of Victory and St. Joseph’s Hospitals for the excellent care that George received.
