Parrett, John Lewis (Jack) (16 Jan 1855 - 9 Jan 1913)

Jack Parrett died last Thursday at his home in the town of York.  John Lewis Parrett was born at Adirondack, Mass., Jan. 16, 1855.  When he was 8 years of age his parents moved to Fond du Lac county, Wis., and they resided there until in 1870 when they came to Clark county.  When Mr. Parrett came to this county he entered the employ of Wm. T. Price as a foreman in the woods and he worked for Mr. Price a number of years.  He later accepted a similar position with the Standard Lumber Co. and held this position for 16 years.  About 12 years ago he became afflicted with a disease which incapacitated him and which baffled the skill of the physicians.  During all these years of sickness he has always maintained a cheerful demeanor and a strong heart, always hopeful that he would regain his former strength.  He was united in marriage on Sept. 18, 1893, to Margaret O’Brien and to this union six children were born, five of whom survive to comfort their bereaved mother.  Deceased is also survived by one half brother, Geo. Whelan, of Fond du Lac and two sisters, Mrs. John Dwyer and Mrs. M.L. Snyder.

Mr. Parrett was a man of exceptionally charitable characteristics and his many acts will long be remembered by many upon whom he bestowed them.  He was kind-hearted to a great degree and it might truly be said that he saw no living thing suffer while he could give assistance.  Mr. Parrett’s many sterling qualities drew to him a host of friends.  He was a member of the Masonic fraternity and the Modern Woodmen.  The funeral was held last Sunday at the residence in the town of York, and was conducted by the Modern Woodmen.  Interment was made in the Neillsville cemetery.
