Schuette, Richard (Arrested for murder of his child - Dec 1912)

Richard Schuette and wife, Annie Molle, were arrested last week for the murder of their three weeks’ old baby in a hotel at Fargo, N.D.  Only a few months ago Richard Schuette, son of an old and respected family, was united in marriage to Miss Annie Molle and went west to Colgate, N.D.  About two weeks ago they returned to Bright where they had rented one of the Bright farms.  The child was born while they were in Dakota.  On their way back to Wisconsin they put up at a hotel at Fargo, N.D., where they committed this horrible crime.  The story of the deed is inhuman in its every detail.  The babe, scarcely three weeks old, was gagged and placed alive in a dresser drawer and then deserted by its inhuman father and unnatural mother who immediately came to Wisconsin.  The crime was not discovered for some days after and but short time lapsed before the officers of the law had located the guilty wretches and when they appeared at the Bright farm.  It was not long before Richard Schuette confessed to the crime, but says that his wife was entirely guiltless so far as the actual murder was concerned though she knew that she was leaving her babe behind, and after threats kept her tongue still.  They have been taken back to Fargo, N.D., to answer to the charge where Richard will probably get the extreme penalty for his crime.  Henry Molle, the father, and H.W. Hardrath, the uncle of Mrs. Richard Schuette, went west immediately to do everything possible to assist the young wife whose greatest crime probably was in keeping the secret of her guilty husband from the officers of the law.

Later—Richard Schuette plead guilty and was sentenced to life imprisonment in the North Dakota prison.
