Widmer, Fred Sr. (8 SEP 1878 - 11 MAR 1956)

Funeral services for Fred Widmer, Sr., were held at two o’clock yesterday afternoon, Wednesday, March 14, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Withee, with Pastor Theodore Predoehl officiating.  Burial was made at Riverside Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were Gotthild Isler, Fred Isler, Elmer Buss, Earl Baehr, Otto Sachs and Warren Sachs.

His soul took its flight from earth to the everlasting home of rest in Heaven Sunday afternoon, about two o’clock, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, where he had been confined and treated for a long lingering illness.  He attained the age of 77 years, 6 months and 3 days.

Fred Widmer, Sr. was born Sept. 8, 1878, at Bern, Switzerland, where he was baptized in infancy, and at the age of 16 confirmed in the Reformed Church.  He came to America as a young man, and was united in marriage with Miss Emma Isler, who had been born in Zurich, Switzerland.  This marriage took place in Milwaukee, Wis., on July 16, 1904.

This union was blessed with eight children, five of whom were sons and three daughters.  Of these, three sons, Eddie, Charley and Alfred, and two daughters, Emma and Rose, have preceded their father into eternity.  The surviving children are: Emilie (Mrs. Stigsen), Fred Widmer, Jr., Withee, and John Widmer of Milwaukee.  The widow, Mrs. Emma Widmer, has been ailing during the past year and is in poor health.
