Shummel, Nellie (4 Sept 1912)

Mr. Bruce Armitage and Miss Nellie Shummel were united in marriage on Wednesday, Sept. 4, 1912, at 7:30 p.m. at the Congregational parsonage by the Rev. H. H. Risser.  After the ceremony the happy couple returned to the home of the bride’s parents and accepted the hearty congratulations of the many friends and relatives invited to participate in the happy event and partake of the bounteous and delicious supper, prepared and served by the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Shummel.  The tables simply groaned under their weight of goodies to which all did ample justice.  At 12 o’clock ice cream and cake were served.  The drinks were "God’s beverage," good tea and coffee, and all men treated to good cigars.

The bride resembled a pretty doll in her plain neat gown of pure white messaline and the groom looked fine in his well fitting suit of dark blue.  They were attended by Miss Blanche Shummel, sister of the bride, and Glen Robinson, a friend of the groom.  The bridesmaid was tastefully attired in a gown of Danish blue messaline.

The beautiful and useful gifts received by the bride and groom were as follows: a quilt, Mrs. Demouth; bed spread, aunt Rosie Broker and Ervin Young; leather upholstered rocker, Mr. and Mrs. Willis Armitage; salad bowl and pair towels, Mrs. W. Westphal; vegetable dish, Vera Hutchins; silver berry spoon, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Whitke; gravy ladle, Misses Nina and Blanche Cornwell and Milo Brown; silver cold meat fork, Misses Nan and Iva Wood; salad dish, Mr. and Mrs. Cornwell; a large hand painted plate, Mr. and Mrs. S.F. Hewett and Helen; salad dish, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Shummel; sugar shell, Glen Robinson; six napkins, Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Montgomery; pair fine towels, Blanche Shummel; fine sheet and pillow slips with hand-made insertion to match, Ella Verbeck; set silver teaspoons, Mr. and Mrs. Will Montgomery and son, Willie; large fancy plate and water pitcher, Mr. and Mrs. C.M. Moody; vegetable dishes, Jim and Mina Westphal; six water and six wine glasses, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Flick; cut glass sugar bowl and creamer, Henry Warlum; six silver coffee spoons, Glen Woodcock; set silver knives and forks, Asa Darling; and last, but not least, an elegant toilet set, to the bride from the groom.  We wish Bruce and Nellie a long, happy and prosperous life.    Mrs. C.M. Moody
