Poertner, Hulda Ann (11 July 1871 - 16 December 1956) 
 

Mrs. Joseph Poertner, 85, of Rt. 1, Neillsville, died late Sunday evening of complication following surgery. Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon from the Bergemann Funeral Home.  The Rev. Jacob Grether will officiate, and burial will be made in the Neillsville City Cemetery. 
 

Mrs. Poertner, the former Hulda Anna Schmidt, was born July 11, 1871, in Saxony, Germany.  She received her education in the schools of Saxony, and when she was 13 years old she came to the United States and settled at Alton, Ill., where she made her home with a step-sister.  She did housework until her marriage to Joseph Poertner in May, 1891, at Alton. 
 

Following their marriage they moved to St. Louis, Mo., where Mr. Poertner operated a bakery.  In 1918 they moved onto a farm in the Columbia area, (Town of Dewhurst), where they resided until the death of Mr. Poertner in 1942.  Since that time she has been making her home with her children. 
 

She is survived by the following children: Oscar Poertner, Denver, Col.; George Poertner, Rt. 2 Neillsville; Russell Poertner, St. Louis, Mo.; Mrs. Tom (Ruby) Yndogliato, Neillsville; Mrs. Albert (Frances) Sollberger, Neillsville.  Nineteen grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren also survive.
