Meier, Mary (24 December 1877 - 23 February 1956)

Mrs. Mary Meier, 78, a former Neillsville resident, died Thursday evening at the Douglas County Sanitarium at Superior, as a result of complications.  She had been a patient there since February 1, 1956.

Mrs. Meier, the former Mary Bartunek, was born December 24, 1877, in Bohemia.  When she was 11 years of age her family came to this country and settled in Chicago.  On June 10, 1895, she was married to James Zikmund, who died in 1907.  One daughter was born to this marriage.

On October 28, 1908, she was married to William Meier of Neillsville. After the death of Mr. Meier in 1928 she made her home with her daughter, and later became a patient at the Clark County Hospital at Owen, where she remained until her last illness.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Neillsville.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Ernest (Caroline) Ott, Neillsville; and the following step-children; Mrs. Henry Seidelman, Neillsville; Henry Meier, Chicago; Herman Meier and Adolph Meier, both of Neillsville; Albert Meier, Wisconsin Rapids; and one sister, Mrs. Anna Deubel of Chicago.  One sister preceded her in death.

A requiem mass was read Monday at St. Mary’s Church with the Rev. Fr. Peter J. Leketas officiating.  Burial took place in the parish cemetery.  A general rosary was said Sunday evening at the Bergemann Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were: Frank Dobes, William Duge, Charles Lueck, Herman Ratsch, Herman Scharf and Frank Simek.

Out of town relatives attending were: Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Parker and daughter, Lynne of Chicago; and Mrs. Anton Schaefer of Marshfield.
