Shoemaker, Darlene (3 JUL 1955)

 

Darlene Shoemaker of Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.), daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. Shoemaker, and Mr. Wm. Mayes of Chicago, son of Mr. and Mrs. G. R. Mayes of Evergreen, N.C., were married on July 3rd, 1955 at 2 o’clock at the Gospel Mission Church in Greenwood, Wis.  Rev. L. Ornan of Chippewa performed the ceremony.

 

The bride was beautiful in a waltz length Chantilly lace over taffeta gown and her veil was imported silk illusion held in place by a half hat of lace like her gown adorned with seed pearls.  She carried a bouquet of red roses on a white Bible.

 

Her matron of honor was Lucille Hilgert, sister, of Eau Claire.  Her dress, ballerina length, was pink net over pink taffeta, portrait collar and wore a picture hat.  Her bouquet was pink and blue asters.

 

The groom and his attendant wore gray blue suits with white boutonnieres.  Donald Shoemaker of Stanley, brother of the bride, attended his brother-in-law.  Darrell Shoemaker, twin brother of the bride, and John Giebel, cousin of the bride, ushered.

 

Two large baskets of glads decorated the altar for the double ring ceremony.  The bride was given in marriage by her father, Ernest Shoemaker.

 

A reception was held in the church following the ceremony.

 

The bride’s mother wore pink linen with white accessories and a corsage of white.

 

Norma Shoemaker, sister of the bride, dressed in a yellow formal, sang two songs, "Because" and "The Lord’s Prayer," accompanied by Joanne Jackson of Greenwood playing the piano.

 

A wedding supper was held at the home of the bride’s parents, followed by a wedding dance at Merry Ol’ Gardens.

 

Following a short wedding trip in Minnesota they returned to Chicago where the groom works.  They will make their home there.

 

Out of town guests were, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sherman and son of Lumberton, N.C., Mrs. John Rodgers and daughter Peggy of Dillon, N.C., sisters of the groom, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Shoemaker and daughters of Madison, Mr. and Mrs. Norbert Riester and Mrs. Lewis Hilgert and son Jeffrey of Eau Claire, Mrs. Dorthea Parr and two children and Mrs. Heobner and two daughters and James Shoemaker of Alma Center.  Also Archie Shoemaker of Alma Center, Mr. Graves, Mr. Likeness, Mr. Tiller and friends from Eau Claire.
