Poole, George (21 September 1861– 12 June 1953)  
 

Word was received here of the death of a former Greenwood resident, George Poole, 91, who died June 12, in the LaFayette County Memorial Hospital.   
 

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, June 15, at the Baptist Church in Darlington, Wis.  The Rev. Wendell Hanson officiated.  Burial was in the Union Grove Cemetery. 
 

Mr. Poole was born September 21, 1861, in Clayton County, Iowa.  His father gave his life for his country during the Civil War.  At the age of two he was brought to Wisconsin to live with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Poole at Darlington. 
 

On November 16, 1882, he was married to Myrtie Benedict.  They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1932.  Mrs. Poole died the following year, June 18, 1933.  After their marriage they lived for some time in Darlington, later moving to Greenwood, where they lived for 25 years on the present Verland Berrett farm.  After the death of his wife he went to reside in Darlington.   
 

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. C. E. (Mabel) Nelson of Darlington, and a son Leroy of Kelly Lake, Minn.; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and two nieces.
