Behrens, Judith (Scholarship - 1953)

The University of Wisconsin committee on loans and undergraduate scholarships has notified Judith Behrens, who graduated from Greenwood High School this year, that she has been selected to receive a Knapp scholarship.  The amount of this scholarship is $400 per year and payments are made to recipients each year throughout the undergraduate career provided a satisfactory record is maintained.

Judith, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Behrens, Route 1, Owen, graduated from Greenwood High School May 20 with honors. She also received the D. A. R. Good Citizenship award as an outstanding school citizen.

Judith was active in the band, chorus, and glee-club throughout her high school career and did much instrumental, vocal and piano and solo work.  As a senior she edited the school paper and served on the staff  three years.  She also participated in forensics and one-act play productions, where she received several special honors.  She was a member of the F. H. A. throughout her high school years.

The Kemper K. Knapp scholarships have been made possible to graduates of Wisconsin and Illinois high schools who enroll at the University of Wisconsin by Kemper K. Knapp of the Class of 1879 of the law School of the University of Wisconsin, who was a distinguished lawyer in Chicago.  By his will he gave large sums of money to the regents of he University with the expressed desire that there be provided out of the income from it scholarships for high school graduates.  A total of forty-eight such scholarships are awarded each year.
