Szpara, Walter (1 AUG 1928 - 20 MAY 1954)
Walter Wm. Szpara, age 25, former resident of Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.), who had been suffering a nervous disorder, died suddenly on May 20, 1954 during a mental relapse at Waukegan, Ill.
After attending Thorp High School, he had been residing in Chicago for seven years, two of these years being served in the U. S. Army with the 118th Medical Battalion, 43rd Inf. Div. Prior to his death he had been employed as tabulating clerk at the First National Bank of Chicago.
The deceased was born Aug. 1, 1928 in the town of Thorp. He is survived by two brothers, Frank and John of Thorp; and four sisters, Mrs. Edward (Adeline) Zaborowski of Thorp, Mrs. Thaddeus (Mary) Stefan, Mrs. James (Emily) Carroll, and Mrs. Lee (Clara) Jazdzewski of Chicago.
Funeral services were held at St. Hedwig’s Church at ten o’clock on Monday morning with Father Herbert Zoromski officiating.
Interment took place at St. Hedwig’s Cemetery where military services were conducted at the grave by members of Cecil Tormey Post 118, American Legion of Thorp, with a salute by the firing squad and the sounding of taps.
Pallbearers were members of the American Legion, Frank Kowalski, Chester, Zajackowski, Frank Soborowicz, Frank Sierociuk, Wm. Wagner, Sr. and Ed Polnaszek.
Out of town relatives attending the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Thaddeus Stefan, Mr. and Mrs. James Carroll and family, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Jazdzewski, Mrs. Joe Hudacek, Mrs. Jos. Fugiel, and Miss Helen Baran, all of Chicago.
