Matheson, Elma (July 28, 1859-June 21, 1910)
Died - Tuesday morning, June 21, Mrs. A. Matheson, aged 50 years, 11 months and 23 days.
Elma Hoffman was born July 28, 1859 at Hixton, to Jacob and Elizabeth Hoffman. She was united in marriage to Dr. A. Matheson on Nov. 6, 1877, and they located at Osseo, later at Chippewa Falls, and in 1898 they came to Neillsville, which has ever since been their home. Mrs. Matheson was the mother of one son, Guy, who with his father survives the deceased. Mrs. Matheson is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Cheesman of Black River Falls, and a brother, Henry Hoffman, of Ladysmith.
Mrs. Matheson had been in poor health for a considerable length of time. Last week she suffered with an attack of heart trouble, but seemed to be recovering and Monday was up and around as usual. Monday night there was a recurrence of the attack, and her husband was aroused by Mrs. Matheson coughing. He got up immediately, but when he reached the side of his wife, she had passed away to her eternal reward.
Mrs. Matheson was a lady of beautiful and winning disposition. She was prominent in social affairs and club life, but never to the neglect of her home, which was cared for with ideal assiduity. Of honorable and charitable characteristics, loving disposition and high mental attainments, she will be sadly missed by those many friends who have become endeared to her.
Her son, Guy, arrived home Tuesday afternoon. The funeral will be held Friday afternoon at the family residence on 5th Street at 2 o’clock.
