Ven Rooy, Peter (11 Feb. 1941 - 21 Sept. 1956)

Funeral services for Peter Ven Rooy were held at 9:30 Tuesday morning at St. Mary’s Catholic church, at Colby, with the Rev. John B. Pinion officiating. Burial followed in the Colby cemetery.

Peter, 15-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Norbert Ven Rooy, Route 1, Colby, died Friday at a Milwaukee hospital of injuries suffered Sept. 9 when the car in which he and four other youths were riding crashed into a concrete abutment on a county road three and one-half miles east of Colby.

Three of the other youths, including two other Ven Rooy boys, were hospitalized and later released. Another occupant received only minor injuries.

Originally hospitalized at St. Joseph’s hospital, Marshfield, Peter was moved to Milwaukee to make use of an artificial kidney available there at County General hospital when his kidneys ceased functioning as a result of shock in the accident. The effort to save his life ended unsuccessfully Friday afternoon.

Peter, who had begun his freshman year at the Colby high school, was born Feb. 11, 1941, at Abbotsford. He started grade school there and continued his early training at St. Mary’s Catholic school, Colby, when the family moved there a few years ago.

Besides the parents, the boy leaves six brothers and sisters, Keith, Donald, Richard, Dorothy, Patricia and Sandra, and his maternal grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Olson, Colby.
