Joseph F. Arbelovsky was born on Jan. 9, 1929, in Cicero, Ill., to Joseph and Marie (nee Fanta) Arbelovsky. The family moved to a farm in the Chili area when he was a young boy. He attended Loyal High School. He married his soul mate and true love, Donna Handrick, on June 15, 1954, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Stratford. They dairy farmed side by side in the town of Fremont, for 40 years. He graduated as an auctioneer from Reisch Auction School in Mason City, Iowa. While farming, they also owned and operated Chili Auction Service for 42 years.

He proudly served in the Army National Guard from 1954-1960 as a gunner and cannoneer. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing baseball, softball, bowling, and trapping. He enjoyed the outdoors his entire life and loved to spend time in his woods, logging, hunting, and enjoying nature. But most of all, he enjoyed gatherings with his family. He had a strong faith in God and was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church. He was instrumental in building the St. Steven’s Chapel in Chili.
