Schmitt, Verjean Helen (Marriage - 19 Aug. 1954)

A floor-length net-over-satin gown with a lace jacket over a lace strapless bodice was worn by Miss Verjean Helen Schmitt, Colby, when she became the bride of Lawrence Kunze, Abbotsford, at a 9 o’clock ceremony Aug. 19 in St. Mary’s Catholic church, Colby.

The Rev. Vincent Schwartz read the marriage vows for the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alphonse Schmitt and the son of Joseph Kunze.

The bride held a cascade bouquet of red roses, gladioli and stephanotis, and her finger-tip veil was secured in a beaded cap edged with lace as she approached the altar on the arm of her father.

Miss Mary Ann Schmitt, Evanston, Ill., wore an orchid-colored formal of net over taffeta with lace bodice and bolero jacket and carried a cascade of matching carnations as she served as maid of honor for her sister. Bridesmaid was Mrs. Ted Kulas, Abbotsford, sister of the groom, who wore an identically styled Nile green gown and carried a bouquet of matching carnations.

Attendants to the groom were his cousin, Donald Kunze, Abbotsford, as best man, and the bride’s brother, Linus Schmitt, as groomsman.

After the ceremony, the bridal couple, who are both graduates of Colby high school, were feted at a breakfast at the home of the bride’s parents, and, later at a dinner and supper at St. Mary’s School gym. They greeted friends and relatives during a reception at the Schmitt home.

The groom is employed on his father’s farm.

Out of town guests were present from Cloquet, Minn.; Long Beach, Calif.; Chicago, Detroit, Mich.; Wauseca, Glidden, Chippewa Falls, Marshfield, Stratford, Columbus, Athens and Abbotsford.
