Murphy, George #3 (31 NOV 1893 - 12 MAY 1954)

Rev. H. Crubel, pastor of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Owen, officiated at the final rites conducted for George Francis Murphy.  The service was held Saturday morning at Griebenow’s Funeral Home, with burial being made in the Norwegian Lutheran Cemetery at Curtiss, where military services were conducted by the Van Huizen-Fritz American Legion Post of Owen.

Serving as pallbearers were Donald Kraut, Wm. Fahrenbach, Jr., William Klessig and Walter Lipprandt, Curtiss; Wm. Veurink, Withee; and E. C. Olds, City.  In charge of floral offerings were Mesdames Les Bowen, Wm. Fahrenbach, Jean Rosenquist, Ray Kobs, Milton Meske and Franklin Piessig.

Although his health had been poor for the past year his death came suddenly and as a shock to his family and relatives.  He suffered a severe heart attack early Tuesday forenoon at his home.  Later he was rushed to St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, where he passed away at 11:25 Wednesday night.

George Murphy was 60 years of age, being born on Nov. 30, 1893 in Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.).  He attended the Thorp and Gilman school systems, later following the vocation of a telegrapher, having a position in this capacity at Abbotsford for 11 years before going to Chippewa Falls on a similar assignment.  In recent years he spent the shipping season working on cargo ships on the Great Lakes.  About two and one-half years ago he gave up this employment to enter in partnership in the tavern business, operating Murphy and Lipprandt’s Bar at the Curtiss corners.

The deceased served in World War I, going overseas for 14 months.  He was an active member in the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by his wife, the former Marion Kluve, whom he married on May 19, 1931, in Abbotsford; three sisters, Mrs. Orea (Ella Mae) Nye, Sr., Thorp; Mrs. Edmunda Woodward and Mrs. Kathryn Beam, Gilman; and one brother, Wm. T. Murphy of Thorp.
