Larsen, John (9 MAR 1898 - 2 MAY 1953)

Friends and relatives of John Larsen, 55, were shocked and grieved later Saturday night when they learned of his sudden death.  Apparently in good health he had been visiting friends and then suddenly suffered a heart attack that produced instant death as he was leaving to go home.

In May 1952 he retired as a mail carrier after serving in that capacity for 23 years at Park Falls.  About six months ago he left Park Falls, coming to Owen (Clark Co., Wis.) to assist his brother Arnold in his IGA Store.  A possessor of a personable disposition he made friends rapidly and had expressed a love for the community and its residents, and had intened to make Owen his permanent home.

He was born on March 9, 1898 at Rib Lake, Wis.  He received his schooling in Rib Lake and Park Falls school systems.  On Aug. 22, 1920 he was united in marriage to Anna Kundinger in St. Anthony’s Church at Park Falls.  His wife preceded him in death several years ago.  Mr. Larsen was always active in community and church sponsorships.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Lodge, Veterans of Foreign Wars and of the American Legion.

He is survived by a son, Lt. J. G. Edward Larsen, stationed at San Diego, Calif.; one daughter, Mrs. Walter (Virginia) Weiberg; three sisters, Mrs. Louis Daus, Milwaukee; Mrs. Elmer Peterson, Madison and Mrs. Frank bourgeois of Park Falls, and four brothers, Fred and Oliver of Park Falls; Arnold of Owen, and Rev. Jerome Larsen of Channing, Mich.

Funeral services were held Wednesday morning, May 6th from St. Anthony’s Church at Park Falls.  Officiating clergymen were Fr. Jerome Larsen, Fr. Ed Zukowski and Fr. Frederick Stock.  Burial was made at Nola Cemetery at Park Falls.  Active pallbearers included Oscar Olsen, Ray Hoffman, William Berg, Walter Seidel, Norman Weiss and Don Pritzl.  Honorary pallbearers were Dan Vicker, Ray Teeters, John Lobermier, Harold Swanson, Norman Thompson and Raymond McDonald.
