Mrs. Thomas J. (Rosemary) Barr, 28, of 7701 Utica Road, Pickett, Wisconsin, died
Saturday at 5 p.m. at Mercy Medical Center in Oshkosh.
She was born August 7, 1947, in Marshfield, the daughter of Jerry and Anna Denk,
and was married to Thomas J. Barr in Idaho November 11, 1968.
Surviving are her husband; her parents in Greenwood; two sons, Todd J. 12, and
Jamie T. 10, at home; a daughter, Rosemary, who was born the day before her
mother’s death; two brothers, Romaine Denk of Milwaukee and Jerry Denk Jr.,
Chicago, Ill., and five sisters, Mrs. Thomas (Caroline) Annen, Crystal Lake,
Illinois, Mrs. Dennis (Mildred) Humke of Marshfield, Mrs. Eldon (Corrine)
Liebzeit of Green Bay, Mrs. Robert (Janice) Brom of Willard, and Mrs. James
(Alice) Funte, Greenwood.
Following cremation, interment was made in the Greenwood Cemetery, Clark County.
A memorial has bee established in the name, “Rosemary”. Konrad Funeral Home is
in charge of the private funeral.

Mendalski, Mary (17 Feb 1895 – 2 Jun 1976)
Mary Mendalski, 81, passed away Wednesday afternoon, June 2, 1976 in Victory
Memorial Hospital in Stanley, Wisconsin following a lingering illness.
Mary Wasilewski was born in Shamokin, Pennsylvania on February 17, 1895. Mary
came to Stanley, Wisconsin with her parents at the age of seven, where she
resided with them until she united in marriage to Peter Mendalski on August 25,
1914 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Stanley, Wisconsin. Eight children were
born into their union.
They lived in the Thorp area, where they engaged in farming until moving into
the city of Thorp.
Mary was an honorary member of St. Gertrude’s-St. Monic’s Circle.
Funeral services were held in the St. Hedwig’s Chapel on Monday, June 7, 1976 at
10:30 a.m., with Rev. John Puerner officiating. She was laid to rest in the St.
Hedwig’s New Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Joseph Klak, Joseph Czech, Joseph Harycki, Michael Smoczyk,
John Navarre and William Tobola.
Left to mourn are her husband Peter; three sons, Theodore, Chicago, Illinois,
Thomas, Hammond, Indiana, Richard, Carol Stream, Illinois; four daughters, Mrs.
Frank (Frances) Smoczyk, Thorp, Martha, Summit, Illinois, Mrs. Peter (Rose)
Luzinski, Chicago, Illinois, Mrs. Joseph (Bernice) Pletka, Thorp; 9
great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; one brother, Joseph, Thorp, and one
sister, Kathryn Dierbeck, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
One son preceded her death in infancy.

Members of the Thorp Alumni Association spent Friday night, June 4, 1976,
gathering the pages of the 1976-77 TAA Directory, which contains the names,
addresses and other information on graduates of Thorp High School from the Class
of 1900 through 1976. The almost 200 pages, which comprise the directory were
spread out on tables in the Thorp City Hall. The TAA workers played a printer’s
version of “musical chairs” by walking around the tables and picking up the
pages in order. After the directories are bound this week, they will be ready
for distribution to TAA members.

Victoria Sierocuk of Thorp was among the record number of graduates to receive
diplomas from Patricia Stevens Career College of Milwaukee in Commencement
Exercises held on Saturday, June 5, 1976, at Uihlein Hall of the Performing Arts
Center.
The Commencement Address was delivered by the Honorable Christ T. Seraphim, ,
Circuit Court Judge of Milwaukee County.
Miss Sierocuk is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Sierocuk, Route 2, Thorp.
She graduated from a nine-month Fashion Merchandising Course.

Cultural Art Center (Starting a New Event - 2024)
The Cultural Art Center in Neillsville hosted a trivia night event, open to
anyone age 15 years old and older. Six teams ranging from five to eight (the
maximum) players each. Teams answered trivia from six categories: math/science,
games, 80s television, history/ geography, Neillsville history and sports.
Neillsville Elementary School principal Marcy Kunze said there are hopes to
repeat this event once a quarter during the school year. Prizes were donated by
local businesses. The winning team was A Few Loose Screws (above) and consisted
of (l-r) Adam and Kat Luchterhand, Paul Knoff, and Jill and Don Hat. In second
place was Tequilla Mockingbird (not pictured); team members included Jen Berger,
Michelle Grap, Jenny Erickson, Mandy Ruff, Karen Gilbert, LeeAnn Henchen and
Amanda Morstatter.

Neillsville Public Library (National Poetry Month - 2024)
In celebration of National Poetry Month, the Neillsville Public Library held its
first Winter Poetry Writing Contest. Poets and the community were invited to
read their poems at the Poetry Reading Night April 24. Poet Isabella B. won
first place in the youth category and read her winning poem, “Here Comes the
Snow,” Guest speaker and poet, Scott Schultz (not pictured), read his poetry.
Schultz is the direct4or The Heartbeat Center for Writing, Literacy and the
Arts, Inc. Central Wisconsin Broadcasting broadcasted the poets reciting their
poems earlier in the month.

“Hairy & Company” Puppet Show Coming to Neillsville (2024)
“Hairy & Company,” a puppet comedy comprised of Diane (left) and John (not
pictured) Windle, will visit Living Hope Church in Neillsville, May 13 for a
show with a Biblical message, open to the public free of charge.

“Harry & Company” are coming to Neillsville on Monday, May 13, from 6-7:30 p.m.
to treat attendees to a puppet show with stories, jokes and songs intended for
both children and adults, all with a Biblical message.
Diane and John Windle are family comedians, and the skits they perform include
jokes that only would “get” as well as jokes and themes for young children.
This puppet-team resides in Oshkosh but regularly entertains at Camp Forest
Springs in Westboro during the summer months, the Windles travel throughout the
country (and beyond) putting on shows and concerts.
“We’ve seen Hairy & Company before, and our kids (ages five and 10) are super
excited that they will be coming to Neillsville so that we can see their great
(and funny) performances again. Said Haly Schultz, co-organizer of children’s
One Way Club ministry held at Living Hope Church.
The show will be held at Living Hope Church (next to the Clark County
Fairgrounds), 7 S. Fairground Ave., Neillsville. The public is welcome to
attend—there is no admission charge and refreshments will be served.

Strohman, Dolores J. (2 June 1929 – 3 May 2024)
Dolores J. Strohman, age 94, Marshfield, passed away on Friday, May 3, 2024, at
Stoney River Assisted Living.
Dolores was born on June 2, 1929, in Chicago, to John and Helen (Pizyware)
Maslowski. At the age of one they moved to Thorp, to dairy farm. She was a
graduate of Thorp High School and a 1950 graduate of St. Joseph’s School of
Nursing, Marshfield.
She was united in marriage to Donald J. “Duke” Strohman on September 2, 1950, at
St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church, Thorp. He died on May 16, 1980.
After her education, Dolores was employed as head nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital
Teaching Service. She developed the diabetic education program and was a
diabetic nurse educator until her retirement after 42 years of service.
She was a longtime member of St. John’s Catholic Church, the Parish Council of
Catholic Women, and the American Legion and Eagles auxiliaries. She enjoyed
traveling and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by sons, Terry Strohman and Mark Strohman, both of Marshfield, a
daughter, Carol (Richard) Schoenfuss of Stratford, and a daughter-in-law, Mary
Lou Strohman of Crofton, Maryland. She is also survived by nine grandchildren,
Laura (Richard) Theele, Michael Strohman, Taylor (Erin) Strohman, Connor
(Alicyn) Strohman, Eric (Megan) Schoenfuss, Amanda Schoenfuss, Erin Schoenfuss,
Samantha (Tom) Schoenfuss, and Hannah (Jared) Schoenfuss. Two great
grandchildren, Victoria and Mark Watier. She is further survived by a sister,
Patricia “Pat” Kohlbeck.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Donald, a son Paul
Strohman, a brother Edwin Maslowski and a sister Evelyn Jacobson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 10, 2024,
at St. John’s Catholic Church, with Rev. Arturo Vigueras officiating. Burial
will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Marshfield. The visitation will be from 4:00
p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at Rembs Funeral Home, Marshfield, and from
10:00 a.m. until service time on Friday at St. John’s Catholic Church. St.
John’s Parish Council of Catholic Women will recite the rosary at 4:00 p.m. on
Thursday at the funeral home.
A special thanks to Rachel and Marissa from Moments Hospice and the staff at
Stoney River Assisted Living.
Memorials may be designated to Marshfield Medical Center for diabetic education
or to St. John’s Catholic Church.
