Iffland, Hugh W. (2 March 1893 - 2 May 1952)

 

Hugh W. Iffland, age 59, died on Friday, May 2, at New London. 

 

Funeral services, in charge of the Georgas Funeral Home, were conducted on Monday at two o’clock from the Reformed Church in Humbird with the Rev. William Koehler officiating. Burial was made in the Town of Mentor Cemetery.

 

Mr. Iffland was born on March 2, 1893, to George and Jennie (Colburn) Iffland.  He received his education in Jackson County and enlisted in World War I in the state of California.  He returned to Humbird after being discharged and worked there until 1922.  On August 2, 1922, he was married to Mary Laffe at Winona, Minn.  He had been employed in New London since their marriage.  He was a member of the Norris-Spencer Post 263 of the American Legion of New London.

 

He is survived by his wife of New London, his father, George Iffland, of Humbird, two brothers, Harry Iffland of Humbird, and Dewey Iffland, address unknown, and a sister, Mrs. Leonard (Marie) Laffe of Taylor.

 

Pallbearers were Legion members, Archie Sparks, Archie Kirby, Archie Fradenburgh, Art Johnson, Raymond Stuve and John Grueb.  The Melchor-Matti Post 320 of the American Legion took part in the ceremonies.

 

The firing squad included members of the Alma Center American Legion Post: Harold Van Gorden commander; bugler, Ardis Wang of Neillsville; color guards Bradley Seguin and Howard Francisco; color bearers, Gust Carl and Raymond Stuve. Rev. William Koehler presented the flag.

 

Mrs. Walter Smith and Beatrice Waters sang two selections accompanied by Mrs. Will Theiler.  Floral offerings were in charge of Mrs. Nina Stuve and Mrs. Eleanor Burchell.

 

Persons from out of town attending the rites included Mrs. Mary Iffland, Mrs. Minnie Hauk, Mrs. Ed Lund, Mrs. Lulu M. Dautermann, all of New London; Mrs. Blanche Kreutzman of Appleton, Mrs. Erwin Borgwart of Dale, Mrs. Orin Wold of Black River Falls, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Laffe of Taylor, Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon Laffe of Macksbury, Ia., and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Haage and family of Melrose.
