Welsch, Paulina #2 (26 AUG 1909)

On Aug. 26th, 1909, at Menominee, Mich., occurred the marriage of Mr. Bert S. Barber and Miss Paulina Welsch.  The marriage was tinged with a degree of romance, as it was the culmination of an automobile trip which Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Bright and Miss Welsch were taking in Mr. Barber’s car.  At Menominee the car broke down, and it was then decided that the contemplated marriage would not be deferred longer, so the event was solemnized there.  The secret was well kept, for but few of the most intimate friends of the contracting parties were aware of the alliance.  Mrs. Barber, with her sister, Mrs. Bright, was here last week at which time the marriage was made known.  Mrs. Barber then left to join her husband at his northern Michigan hunting camp, and after spending a week there will go to Beaver Dam where they will make their home.

Mr. Barber is secretary and general manager of the J. S. Rowell Mfg. Co., one of the largest manufacturers of drills and seeders in the west.  He is prominent in manufacturing circles and has a wide acquaintance throughout the state.  He is a keen businessman and a clever gentleman.  The wife he has won is one of Neillsville’s (Clark Co., Wis.) most estimable and talented young ladies.  She has been most exceptionally endowed by nature both in intellect and personal appearance, and will preside over her home with credit and distinction.  She taught school in Clark County and also at Phillips.  Later she went to Milwaukee where she served two years as a stenographer.  She ten became a private secretary for H. C. Carr, manager of Plankinton Pkg. Co. of Milwaukee, and then left that position to accept a similar one for E. A Edmonds, chairman of the Republican state central committee.  Although Mrs. Barber has not made her home here continuously for some years, yet she has a great many friends here who will be pleased to learn of her marriage and extend their very sincere best wishes to Mr. and Mrs. Barber.
