Umlauft, Rudolph (28 Feb. 1876 - 6 Mar. 1948)

Funeral services for Rudolph Umlauft, 72, who died at his home, Saturday, were held Tuesday morning at 9:00 o’clock at the home in the town of Holton, and at 9:30 at St. Louis’ Catholic church, of Dorchester, Wis. The Rev. Phillip Weller sang a requiem high mass. Internment was made in the Dorchester cemetery.

Rudolph Umlauft was born Feb. 28, 1876, in Austria, and came to America with his parents, March 22, 1882, and settled on the farm in the town of Holton where he lived all his life.

On Jan. 12, 1908, he was married to Anna Pueschner. To this union four daughters and three sons were born, all of whom survive their father.

Mr. Umlauft, who had a heart ailment, was active in town and farm enterprises. He was vice president of the Marathon-Clark Cooperative Dairy Association of Abbotsford; president of the Dorchester Co-op, active in the soil conservation program and a number of other enterprises.

On Friday night he attended a party at the home of his brother-in-law, John Kadonsky, when the 70th anniversary of his coming to the town of Holton was observed. Some time after Mr. Umlauft left, he suffered a heart attack and death occurred at 2:00 a.m. Saturday.

He leaves his widow and the seven children, Irving, at home; Frank, Mrs. Orville (Marcella) Oehler, Mrs. Melvin (Ruth) Juedes, of Dorchester; Mrs. Anton (Helen) Riegert, Stetsonville; Henry, Marshfield; and Mrs. Louis (Lorraine) Kaski, of Abbotsford, Wis. There are eight grand children. An only sister, Mrs. John Kadonsky, of Abbotsford, also survives. Their brother, Joe, died in 1926.

SECTION 8 TOWNSHIP 29 NORTH RANGE 2 EAST

A certain Indian Chief conveyed a certain territory or tract of land on May 1, 1767 to Jonathon Carver who died Jan. 3;, 1780, leaving two sons and five daughters and sole inheritance, that said heirs duly conveyed their interest to Samuel Peters, who by deed dated July 13, 1815, conveyed 536,640 acres of said land to Benjamin Connor subject to his choice of location. Benjamin Connor died Dec. 1835 leaving first party at his heir at law. Therefore, first party conveys to second party 19,000 acres of said land, the same including Section 8, Township 29 North, Range 2 East. According to certificate of selection of Stephen Schooley attached to this deed Section 8, Township 29 North Range 2 East and other land. Made pursuant to the Act of Congress approved May 20, 1862 to secure homesteads to active settlers on the Public Domain.

The United States of America to prosper Stimson May 24, 1879.

On Nov. 30, 1882, Franz Umlauft and wife purchased 80 acres of land. On Sept. 12, 1902, a son, Rudolph Umlauft and wife Anna purchased the land and 40 acres more. They had 7 children.

On March 6, 1948 Rudolph Umlauft died. February 18, 1952 a daughter Ruth and husband Melvin Juedes bought the farm from his mother, Mrs. Umlauft. Juedes have a daughter Karen and a son Floyd. At present they have 200 acres of land.
