Butterfield, Hattie B. (13 OCT 1874 - 3 SEP 1953)

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, Sept. 6, at the Thorp Funeral Home for Mrs. Hattie Berdena Briggs Butterfield (nee Wilson), who passed away at her home Thursday, Sept. 3rd, 1953. Rev. Meinhardt conducted the services and burial was made in the Sylvan Cemetery in the town of Reseburg.

Mrs. Butterfield was born Oct. 13, 1874, in Lafayette County. She had reached the age of 78 years, 10 months and 21 days at the time of her death.

In 1894 she was united in marriage to William Briggs of Baraboo, Wis. Three children were born to this union. Edna, Gordon and Raymond. Her husband William and children Edna and Gordon preceded her in death.

In 1901 Hattie Berdena was united in marriage to Claude Butterfield at Baraboo, Wis. They moved to Aniwa, Wis., and three children were born to them while there, Roscoe, Edith and Lester.

They purchased a farm in the town of Reseburg (Clark Co., Wis.) in 1908. Five children were born here. Lillian, Claudia, Lois, Claude Jr. and Lloyd.

In 1951 their 50th Wedding Anniversary was celebrated at their home where the deceased and her husband lived until the time of her death, Sept. 3rd, 1953.

She was an active member of the Reseburg Congregational Church and has always been very interested in her church and the spiritual welfare of her family and friends.

Surviving her are her husband, 4 sons: Raymond Briggs, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Roscoe of Hayward, Lester, Thorp, Claude, Algoma, Wis.; two daughters, Mrs. M. F. (Edythe) Robinson, Stillwater, Okla., Mrs. L. F. (Lillian) Zell, Zanesfield, Ohio; 28 grandchildren, Mrs. Harvey (Bernice) Zell, Mrs. Gerald (Birdena) Gauger, Mrs. Lowell. (Dorothy) Frankwick, of Marshfield, Wis.; William Briggs, Bruce, Wis.; Harvey and Lawrence Briggs, Ashton, Ill.; Robert Briggs, Kenosha, Wis.; Mrs. Harold (Vieve) Henkel, Minneapolis; Mrs. Maurice (Pearl) Cairns, Superior; Mrs. Wilbur (Rae) Duram, Cedar Rapids, Ia.; Raymond Briggs Jr., Ashtubula, Ohio; Keith, Lois, Janet, Joyce, Lloyd, Roscoe Jr., Thomas and Kathryn Butterfield of Hayward, Wis.; Robert and Bernice Butterfield of Thorp, Wis.; Mrs. Phillip (Goldene) Tennant, Gordon, Glendale, Kerryn, Elden and Lynn Zell of Zanesfield, Ohio, Merlyn Zell with the U. S. Air Force in Japan, and 25 great-grandchildren. Also one sister, Emma Weppler of Livingston, Mont.

Pallbearers were Lewis Galiger, Roy Fountain, Charles Hardy, Lewis Pagel Sr., Orta Cornwall and Chester Glasshof.

Persons from out of town attending the funeral were Mrs. Zella Shore and son Wayne of Freeport, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Cannon of Dixon, Ill.; Mrs. Mina Uehling of Afton, Wis.; W. T. Wilson and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Wilson of Curtiss, Wis.; George Butterfield, Reuben Butterfield, Mr. and Roland Cushman, Louella Hiller of Reseburg, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Butterfield of Stanley, wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Butterfield and family of Wis. Rapids, Wis.; Mrs. Helen Skrtich of Indianapolis, Ind.; Mr. and Mrs. Warren Woker and Mr. and Mrs. Norman Woker of Pearl City, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Percy Marshall of Cadott, Wis. All the children and grandchildren except Raymond Jr., Pearl and Merlyn were present , also most of the great-grandchildren.
